About gscc

Our regular worship gathering begins at 10:30 am on Sunday morning and we are sent out with a song by the noon hour. If you are joining us for the first time you will find our congregation to be warm and welcoming and our worship to be reverently informal.

Meet the Pastor

Pastor Gerald DeWit was born to Dutch immigrant parents in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour when he was 12. After high school, he planned to become a physical education teacher because he loves playing basketball and attended Queens University. However, the Lord had other plans, and within a year, he knew the Lord was calling him to ministry. He attended Eastern Bible College and Seminary (now Master’s) and received a Bachelor of Missions degree.

Pastor Gerald has over 25 years of ministry experience as a youth and young adult pastor, teacher, and lead pastor. Pastor Gerald was a senior pastor in the Northern Bruce Peninsula for the last 10 years, during which he and his wife, Beverly, were very involved in ministry. Before this, he served as Dean and teacher at a small Bible school in Kingston, Ontario.

Pastor Gerald has been blessed to travel to various countries to assist pastors and missionaries around the World. He has been to Germany, Holland, France, Thailand, Guatemala, St Kitts, and Northern Canada to minister to the indigenous people and the inner cities of the USA. Since he was a young boy, reading missionary biographies, Pastor Gerald has had a God-given passion to see the nations come to Christ.

Pastor Gerald enjoys watching sports, playing golf, coaching basketball, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. You might catch him watching an old classic movie or reading a book in his free time. If his wife is looking for him, she will find him mowing the lawn or weeding the garden.

Office Administrator

Esther Kelly – Office Administrator

Esther was born into a Christian family, the youngest of 2 children, raised on a mixed farm north of Shelburne. She married Henry Kelly in 2006 and then moved to Grey County in the fall of 2009. Esther joined the GSCC staff as Office Administrator late 2025 after spending 22 years working as a nurse. The last few years of her nursing career, she has felt a growing calling to serve and care for people in a different capacity, which led her to this role. She is grateful for the opportunity and looks forward to how God will use her in the coming years to serve His people at GSCC.

Esther attends GSCC with her husband and their three children. Together, they operate a mid-sized sheep farm not far from the church. When she’s not in the office, you’ll most likely find her in the barn or spending time with her family. She is looking forward to serving her GSCC family.

New? What to expect

CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT IF YOU JOIN IN WORSHIP AT GENTLE SHEPHERD? READ ON . . . .

  • Our church family is exactly that – a family, which includes people of all ages, and at differing stages of spiritual growth and formation.

  • Our main weekly worship gathering begins on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am. You can expect a warm greeting at the door whether you are there for the first time or have been attending for years. Our ushers and greeters will be pleased to answer any questions you may have about the Church or the facilities etc.

Our worship services begin with a time of praise comprised of contemporary choruses and more traditional hymns. We then seek God together in prayer and through the teaching of God’s Word.

Coffee is always on after the worship service.

  • Being a family, we desire to minister to the youngest through to the oldest. We have a staffed nursery for infants and “Creationland” for our kids. If you prefer to keep your children with you during worship, please feel free to do so. All our workers/volunteers have been screened and trained through our “Plan to Protect” safe Church policy.

  • Prayer is communion with God and it has a central place in our corporate worship gatherings. We publish a weekly prayer list in our bulletin and encourage individual prayer throughout the week. We also host a women’s prayer meeting on Thursday mornings of every week.

  • The weekly Sunday message is usually about 30 minutes in length and we think you will find it to be refreshingly Bible-centered. Our home groups often take the Sunday morning message and discuss it during the week.

  • Holy Communion or The Lord’s Supper is celebrated during worship on the first Sunday of each month. At Gentle Shepherd we maintain an “open table” meaning simply that if you profess faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, you are welcome to participate. There is no requirement that one be a member of the church. If you do not wish to participate feel free to pass the plate to the person sitting next to you.

  • Giving is one of the aspects of being a disciple of Jesus and a steward of God’s gifts to us. You will notice offering plates as you come into the worship space at Gentle Shepherd. These days many give simply through e-transfers. No offering plate is passed during worship. Gentle Shepherd encourages generosity through the tithes and offerings of God’s people. We believe in it so strongly that we do no fund raising beyond the free-will offerings of God’s people. If you are visiting as a guest you are not expected to make a donation but should you wish to there are envelopes provided and you will receive a donation receipt.
